SECONDARY CHARACTERS
- Huck Finn- Huck is the main character of the story.He is a 12 year old boy who just wants to have fun and enjoy life. He doesn't want to be civilized, and he doesn't want people to tell him what to do. Huck likes to make his own decisions, but other people are always giving him bad influences. People make him second guess his decisions, and he always thinks he is doing the wrong this. By the end of the story Huck has grown up a lot and he will do anything to free Jim.
- Jim- He is Miss Watson's slave in the beginning of the story, but he ended up running away. Jm is Huck's partner and he goes on the journey with Huck as they try to get to the north for freedom. Throughout the story Jim becomes almost like a father to Huck, and he cares a lot about him. He is very supersticous, and very caring. Jim would do anything for Huck, and Huck becomes his best friend.
- The Duke and the Dauphin- These two are con-artists. They meet Huck and Jim after Huck leaves the Grangerfords. They convince Jim that they are a king and duke, but Huck knows they are faking. They join Huck and Jim on their journey for a little while and con people at every town they stop at.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS
- Tom Sawyer- Huck's bestfriend, who works as a FOIL to Huck. Tom likes to play a lot of games and is quick to come up with a good plan or lie. Towards the end of the novel, it was Tom's idea to create an elaborate scheme to help free Jim, despite the fact that he knows Jim is already truly free. To the readers, it is clear that although Huck matured throughout his journey, Tom stayed the same, young, mischevious boy he has always been.
- Pap- Hucks drunken, jealous dad, who does not want Huck to learn anything. Pap wants Hucks money, but he takes Huck and forces him to live with him in a hut in the middle of the woods. At the end of the novel, it is learned that Pap was the dead man in the floating house.
- Miss Watson and Widow Douglas- They are sisters and the Widow was in charge Huck and she took care of him. She tried to civilize Huck
- The Grangerfords- they are a family that take Huck in after he gets knocked off of the raft from a steam boat. They are a very nice family and they have a very tacky home. They are in a long rivalry with another family and many of them get killed.
- The Wilks Family- This is a family that the duke and the king scammed, when the father died. The king pretended to be the daughters' uncle, and scammed almost the entire town.
- Uncle Silas and Aunt Sally- They are Tom's aunt and uncle. At the end of the novel they are holding Jim in their shed. Huck goes to search for Jim there and he pretends to be Tom.
